District Announcements
Operation Take Back
On Saturday, September 27th, 2014, the Wayne Police Department in conjunction with the D.E.A. will be holding “Operation Take Back.” This semi-annual event will take place in the lobby of Wayne Police headquarters between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. On hand to collect all unused prescriptions and to answer any questions will be Detective Sergeant Jay Celentano of the Special Operations Unit and Detective Sergeant Charles Ahearn of the Youth Bureau. We strongly urge parents in our community to take advantage of this program to discard any unused or expired prescriptions. The Wayne Police Department has identified the illegal use of prescription drugs as a rising trend among the younger people in our community. This program is a voluntary prescription pill collection that will allow parents an opportunity to protect their families. We will not be collecting over the counter medications, needles, or any medication in liquid form.
Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Grades
As per the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act (ABR) (P.L.2010, c.122), the Wayne Township Public Schools has posted its Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act grades to the district's HIB webpage, and to each individual school's webpage. Click here to view a copy. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Naomi Conklin, District Anti-Bullying Coordinator, nconklin@wayneschools.com, if you have any questions.

Nurse's Corner
WELCOME BACK!    Back to school means back to a healthy routine.  Let's start off the school year with a healthy diet, lots of rest and plenty of exercise.  Students are asked to bring only healthy snacks to school.  There are many snacks to choose from including fruit, veggies and cheese.  We ask that foods that contain peanuts and nuts are left at home so we can keep our nut allergic friends safe.  If you look around the school you will find ALLERGY AWARE SIGNS outside the classrooms.  This means Pines Lake School is aware of many students among us who are allergic to foods including nuts, peanuts, fruits, dairy, eggs, wheat, fish and many others.  In our cafeteria there are designated tables that are nut and peanut free.  Everyone is invited to sit at these tables as long as their lunch does not contain any form of nuts or peanuts.    Also, January 19th-24th is healthy eating week.  This is a great time to think about our eating habits and start eating foods that will help our bodies to grow.  A healthy diet helps our brains to function properly so we can do our best in school.  Join me in celebrating Healthy Eating Week!
Emergency Drills

Every year, schools are responsible for preparing their staff and students for a variety of emergencies.  Fire, evacuation, lock-down and shelter-in-place drills help staff and students know how to respond in case of an emergency and give them the practice they need to respond appropriately.  Often times, these drills are unannounced, in an attempt to recreate an authentic emergency situation.  Please be aware that we practice these drills regularly, sometimes with the presence of the fire and police departments.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Celis.
