Author Visits Pines Lake
Former Pines Lake Elementary School student, Jolie Della Valle, came to visit some of the early elementary students and read her book, Georgie and the Ants in the Pants. †During this visit with Mrs. Lee's media classes, the children were singing and dancing to her read-aloud and her ukulele music. †Jolie even signed books for some of the students. †We are always excited to have Pines Lake alumni return to inspire the next generation.

Nurse's Corner
Happy Thanksgiving! †Here are some tips to help us enjoy the upcoming holiday season while staying healthy and fit at the same time. Take a walk through our local Laurel Gardens, breathe the fresh air, enjoy the fall foliage, watch the animals. †Walking is not only great exercise, it calms the mind and keeps stress levels down. †We are expecting snow very soon, go out, have a snowball fight, build a snowman, make a snow angel, go sleighriding! †There are many fun activities to do outdoors during the winter. †The winter holidays bring lots of parties and treats. †We know itís ok to eat treats once in a while but itís important to pay attention to what we eat during the holidays. †Many holiday treats such as cookies, crackers, frozen entrees, seasoned pasta and rice contain unhealthy trans fats. Trans fats are partially hydrogenated fats that are used to improve shelf life of processed foods. †They are very unhealthy to eat because they can clog our arteries and heart. ††Itís important to read the labels on everything we eat to know what we are putting into our body. †Here are some SENSIBLE SWAPS: †Have nuts instead of crackers, fruit instead of cookies or doughnuts, lean protein and fresh veggies instead of frozen entrees. †Many restaurants and food chains post their nutrition information online. †Do some research before your order. †Youíll be surprised how some small changes in your eating habits will help you in the long run. †STAY HEALTHY AND SAFE AND ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS!
